Camping Lifegroup:

Our Mission is to provide fellowship with believers while embracing God’s creation at various RV parks

Leaders: Del and Beth Traeger.  We are blessed to work with a wonderful and eclectic group of people, mainly married couples, from young parents to grandparents, from hardworking individuals to retirees. Although we may differ in age, we share a number of commonalities: we love the Lord, love the great outdoors, love to laugh, love our pets, and love to eat.

Camping Agenda: Organizational meetings are held the first Sunday of each month.  Campouts are held on the third weekend of the month at various locations (see schedule below).

Activities:

We are a rather relaxed and autonomous group of individuals. Because of the different work schedules, we all arrive at different times on Friday afternoon/evening. We usually connect at a campsite, eat, and visit around the campfire.

On Saturday evenings, we get together to share a meal around a pre-arranged theme, have a campfire, and a devotional or Bible study.  During the day, we kind of do our own thing.  Of course, Sunday is checkout day, and sadly we must return to reality, but we hold on to the laughs and unfortunately the extra calories, and look forward to next month.

Please call us at (830) 885-5573 or (210) 710-7144 for more information.  We’d love to talk to you on a more personal level.

Fly Fishing LifeGroup

flyfishing001

Fly Fishing the Hill Country LifeGroup at Community Bible Church meets two times each month on Sunday Mornings.  LifeGroup members attend the Saturday evening church service before the Sunday outing. This group has two common interests: love for Jesus Christ and the joy of fly fishing. The fly fishers’ experience levels range from exploratory beginner to expert. The group welcomes all who are curious about fly fishing, and those who seek fellowship with other Christians exploring the beautiful rivers of the Texas Hill Country.

Do you have the curiosity, but do not have a fly rod or know how to use one? No problem; the group brings extra rods and flies that newcomers may use while they decide if fly fishing is something they wish to pursue.

In addition, we have fly-casting instructors who are more than willing to help you get started. FFHC members fish year-round in various waters and after different species. In the warm months of the year, when waders are not needed, we fish for bass and sunfish. During the colder months, you will need to bring your own waders when we fish for trout in the Guadalupe tailrace and other locations. A GRTU Lease Membership is suggested, but guest passes are available if you are a first-timer wanting to check this experience out for yourself. The Fly Fishers are all about Jesus, fellowship, and enjoying God’s creation.

Women’s Hiking and Backpacking LifeGroups

O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.
— Psalm 104:24

Hiking LifeGroup

Hiking Up the Front of Enchanted Rock

CBC’s Women’s Hiking LifeGroup is led by Krista Allen and is made up of women (adults only) who seek the beauty and serenity found in God’s creation—away from the deadlines and To Do lists of their busy lives.

Ladies at any level of experience—from the exploratory beginner to the expert—are welcome.

We meet to hike one Saturday each month. Contact Krista at krista@allen-technical.com for the current hiking schedule.

Overview:

  • Our hikes range from 3 to 7 miles in length, depending on location, and are on established nature trails (rather than cross-country).
  • Our hiking pace is around 3 mph, depending on the terrain.
  • For their safety and enjoyment of the hike, all ladies wishing to participate must be in good physical condition.
  • Hikes in San Antonio city parks, including Friedrich Park and Eisenhower Park, are completed before or soon after noon.
  • Hikes in parks outside San Antonio, including Lost Maples State Natural Area, Hill Country State Natural Area, and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, are all-day hikes.

We begin our hikes with a prayer, and have a devotional reading during a rest break. We also spend a portion of the hike in silent reflection or prayer.

All hikers must bring water or sports drink. Feel free to bring a snack (and lunch for the longer hikes), as we will take rest and lunch breaks as needed. A hat and sunscreen are recommended.

Backpacking LifeGroup

CBC’s Women’s Backpacking LifeGroup is led by Krista Allen, and is made up of women (adults only) seeking fellowship and fun in the backcountry. God’s glory is all around you on the trail, and it is a true pleasure to take the time to let your senses reach out to Him.

You alone are the LORD.

You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve them all and
the angels of heaven worship you.

—Nehemiah 9:6

Overview:

  • We meet one Sunday afternoon a month at CBC for fellowship, trip planning, and information sharing. Backpacking trips are monthly or every-other-month, in response to level of interest. Contact Krista at krista@allen-technical.com for the current trip and meeting schedules.
  • Trips may be for a weekend or longer; within or outside Texas; single campsite or through-hiking, depending on interest. Typically, backpacking trips will be in state and national parks.
  • Hiking pace is around 3 mph, depending on the terrain.
  • For their safety and enjoyment of the trip, all ladies wishing to participate must be in good physical condition.
  • Backpacking trips incorporate prayer, devotional discussions, and worship.

NOTE:  Ladies at any level of experience—from the exploratory beginner to the expert—are welcome. Ladies with no backpacking experience (primitive camping; carrying their gear into the backcountry in backpacks) must attend a Backpacking Orientation class in order to join the group on backpacking trips. Backpacking Orientation class is offered at least once per quarter, based on interest.

Contact Krista at krista@allen-technical.com for information about the next Backpacking Orientation class.
